Creating timeless beautiful painterly images
A Personalised Photography Experience
recent portrait photography session in out London based photography studio
As a London-based photographer, I pour my heart into capturing images that resonate with genuine emotion, delivering photographs you’ll cherish forever. My love for photography began in the mid-1970s when, as a child, I spent an afternoon sketching my dad waving from his pest control van, complete with a smiley face, glasses, and an arrow labeled “This is Terry.” I proudly gave it to him for his office, and the joy of creating that image has stayed with me for nearly 50 years.
That creative spark carried into my first photography experience during a school skiing trip to Italy in the late 1970s. Armed with my mum’s Kodak camera with flash cubes—a relic I still treasure—I eagerly snapped away. But when we collected the prints from Boots, most were underexposed, ruined by my lack of knowledge about cameras at age 10. Still, the passion to create images that brought joy never faded.
By 1982, my enthusiasm grew when a friend showed off stunning photos of London’s Embankment, taken with a Zenit EM camera. That July, I got my own Zenit EM for my birthday, thrilled to create my own “amazing” images. But without understanding the dials and settings, my photos came out dark and blurry. Disappointed, I tucked the camera away, thinking photography wasn’t for me.
Years later, as a father to two sons, I rediscovered my passion. I bought a second-hand Nikon and subscribed to a learn-at-home photography course advertised in a magazine. Finally, the numbers and letters on the camera made sense! I practiced, made mistakes, and learned, gradually mastering the art of capturing moments. Soon, I was creating portraits for family and friends, rekindling that childhood joy of producing images that made people smile.
Today, as a professional photographer in London, I specialize in portrait photography that captures the essence of my subjects. Whether it’s a candid chat during a shoot or the moment a client sees their images on screen, the feeling is indescribable. While digital photos are wonderful for sharing worldwide, there’s nothing like holding a beautifully printed photograph or displaying it on your wall. Over the past 46 years, I’ve printed tens of thousands of images, each one carrying the same heartfelt sincerity as that felt-tip drawing I gave my dad.
